The 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix was the 13th race of the 2006 Formula One season. Jenson Button won the race driving a Honda, the first victory of his career and first for Honda since 1967. Pedro de la Rosa finished second for McLaren-Mercedes, the only podium finish of his career, and Nick Heidfeld finished third, giving BMW Sauber their first podium.

Fernando Alonso won and heads into the season's final race with a 10-point lead over Michael Schumacher, who dropped out on the 37th lap with a failure engine. Alonso needed only one point from the final race to secure the title.

Fernando Alonso finished second to confirm his second drivers' world title behind of Felipe Massa, who became the first Brazilian winner in São Paulo since the late Ayrton Senna in 1993.
