Martial arts fan Tarik is delighted the case takes him to the Hamburg operetta theatre where Rocky musical lead Drew Sarich has collapsed from a non-fatal overdose tranquilizer which must have been slipped into his drink just before the performance which will be attended by a major casting directors. Surprisingly producer Mikkelsen doesn't field Drew's aging double Florian Ellinger, to assistant Janne Abraham's fury, but fitter last reserve Henry Gravert. A vindictive actress has also been sighted but Mikkelsen stubbornly refuses to cancel any show, despite indications more trouble is ahead, not even after it materializes. Hans meanwhile worries his missing key chain may have been abused by a crook.

Further possible motives are found. While investigating, Tariq sulks first because he applied too late for a free sailing course, then because captain Haller gets him in 'as minority pet', while Matte finds finds Melanie soon stops laughing away his warnings for the boss's flirtatious attention.

While working out after hours, with the police fitness tests coming up, Mattes witnesses national competition-candidate Josh Baier, a friend at pro-level, fall and be hospitalized after a pole jump because it broke. Captain Haller berates Mattes 'self-righteous' initiative to investigate, but it's most atypical and probably no coincidence that a training device installed for Josh by club ground caretaker Paul Gabriel 'mysteriously' broke down. Coach Alex Wissmann, a grumpy slave-driver in a 'race wheelchair' with Paralympic ambitions, actually objects to medical care 'at the expense' of intensive training in view of the national selection in three days. Prime suspect is rival athlete Lars, who had a private row about car damage with Josh months ago but might move up to selection, and bitter at the coach constantly favoring Josh while belittling his 'inferior effort' however hard he works too. Tariq, who wonders why his colleague is so stiff, finds in Josh's room his 'girl friend', actually sports doctor and coach's adulterous wife Nele. ER blood tests show Josh was doped, which is terrible news for him as it compromises his selection for this year. Finally the broken pole is found defective but not authentic.

Tarik is not amused when blatant bigot shopkeeper Kowski reports being mugged and baseball-beaten by a masked 'Turk like him', shocked when his uncle Adnan Aydin's gentle son Murat becomes the prime suspect and captain Haller takes concerned Tarik off the case as kin, by the book. Shop regular André Delling, a proud gay boy, is patched up in ER after a painful confrontation with Murad's tough big brother Emre, discharges himself and provides cute Murad an alibi which the family violently rejects. Murad rather confesses the robbery, which Tarik's clever but forbidden questioning indicates he couldn't have committed, then be outed and ostracized as 'queer pervert', even respected Tarik is disowned just for taking the alibi seriously.

Mark Eising believes his marriage wrecked and uses his fists on neighbor Robert Philipsen, whose wife Laura passed on photos of the 'adultering' spouses kissing made by her PI Jürgen Helbing. While there firstborn Fabian and Imme enjoy a budding affair, Robert suffers repeated further abuse but maintains his innocence and files an abuse complaint, forcing the police to investigate the case. Despite Mattes's initial lack of sympathy, he helps verify Tariq's theory that Robert was framed.

Dementing concert pianist Friedrich Magnus shares his villa with cheap-renting gifted music students Daniel Weller and Paula Tennhagen, who help him out. His greedy, less-gifted daughter Constanze Magnus wants them out, claims Frriedrich is dementing and ordered a 'business assessment' from the former precinct commander's wife. Karin Berger, who wouldn't file a complaint, unlike Constance who called the police, against the students for throwing her out whereby she accidentally was scratched. Tariq finds the students are in their legal right but Constance claims they stole her late mother's transverse flute. The row gave Friedrich a short cardiac crisis, allow ER to diagnose him with early dementia, which he denies, and he has the notary preparing the transfer of the villa to his juvenile tenants-minders, but Constance moves in. Furthermore the villa's nosy neighbor was the c-victim of a pushy second hand jewelry buyer.

Ambulance doc Philipp Haase is traumatized when a clown masked youth kidnaps him and leaves in the ambulance, leaving him tied to a metal fence in the marina. Diabetic physics student Paul Neuhaus's overprotective mother reports him sassing from his dorm, where pictures of wearing such scary masks pale besides his dropping out from college. A stolen limousine with caged cat is the next prank crime, each posted anonymously in Internet as a Gotcha game. Paul is brought into hospital with an insulin crisis, there must be at least one other culprit. The team looks into his roommates too.

Senior constable Hans Moor is surprised to meet again his Dresden hippie days flame Marion Hilbig. She's the unsuspecting mother of Nelly, who was battered on the street 'without witnesses' and points to her pimp, nightclub owner Marcel Gohde, who wasn't amused she no longer want to strip-dance her way trough college and sent some cash to her unemployed mother, but frightens any potential witness. Tarik investigates the break-in at Nelly's apartment, where only her notebook was stolen, yet she hesitates to admit it contains proof of Gohde's other illegal lucrative business. While another crime follows, Hans suspects he may have been robbed of fatherhood.

Kiosk owner Freddy Eilrich is robbed of his wallet, holding rich daily earnings, assumes it's by a car widows-cleaning pair of young gypsy beggars he tries to apprehend, but jumping to escape, Jal trips over a car and needs hospitalization. His brat sister Samira rudely plays the obvious discrimination victim, but makes herself prime suspect my sneaking out of hospital, where nurse Frauke saw her counting a packet of cash, after hiding the wallet, and Eilrich's library card is found in their backpack. Mattes, grumpy as he had to sleep on a precinct table due to his flooded home, is eager to jail Samira, risking deportation to Romania, yet keeps on open mind, unlike the women who blindly sympathize with gypsies, insisting they be called Roma. A dozen of them lives in a derelict home rented below legal standards by the senile owner's son Georg Preuß. Mattes reconsiders the series of street robberies the siblings are suspected of, finds and tests an alternative suspect.

Flight car owner Bernhard Buttfanger's niece Femke trades jewelry made from the local specialty, amber, in her non-lucrative petty shop, Kassabian is a major client but neither dares testify against the mobster. Dodgy tramp Ollo Bornkamp brings acquainted Hans Kassabian's cellphone. Mattes also looks into Femke's brother Hark Buttfanger and stumbles upon counterfeiting.

Mattes needs junk-food bait to lure Linus Ulmke out and take him to the precinct, where 'grandfatherly' Wolle -also the name of his cuddly toy, meaning 'wool' in German- bonds with the cute, bright rascal, who still ends up escaping trough the bathroom window. Tarik meanwhile found a beaten-up man who was dumped on a dock, only robbed for appearances, who is hospitalized and identified as Linus's father, bank 'premium account' investment advisor Sebastian Ulmke. He made enemies by losing peoples savings, as in the case of violent ex-con Roman Täuber, who even lost his home. But prime client Josef Adamski, a shipping company multimillionaire, proves key.

Nils Steinbach was beaten badly in front of his home after a fight with wife Jessica but makes contradictory declarations when questioned in hospital, as if terrorized. Nils was previously convicted for abuse of his first wife , but explains what really happened. Jessica's brother Frank Wittek or teenage-son Yannick, who claims to have seen nothing, may have fought off the stepfather, while the biological father recently returned from abroad, subject to a restraining order having been convicted years ago for abuse, hoping to contact his growing-up boy, so far in vain. Tarik can't concentrate on the job, having been told in front of the curious precinct by his ex Pauline she's expecting his baby. Finding the hidden statue used to beat Nils Steinbach in his home helps untangling the family drama.

Notoriously wayward Schiller gymnasium (high school) pupil René Marwort, who rebels against his overbearing parents, files an abuse complaint against his old-school math teacher who ear-boxed for insolence and class vandalism, but nobody believes Udo Ahlmann is responsible for his black-eye, as René maintains. Shortly after, the knave is hospitalized after a bad fall on his motorcycle, the breaks being tampered with, and again René improbably accuses the teacher. René's ex-girl fears, dumping him aiming for his best classmate Ruben Sievers turned René suicidal. Ruben however never committed to her. Some school vandal painted 'R+J' in a heart at school. A note in René's motorcycle "I blow your cover" inspires alternative motive theories, involving unconventionally concerned language teacher Jette Lürsen. The precinct meanwhile buzzes about Tarik resolving to offer an heirloom wedding ring to Pauline, the mother of his newborn son whom he barely knows.

Hans celebrates his impending promotion with pay rise first in the precinct, then with his daughter Nelly, insisting to finance her studies, so she resigns her waitress job. Walking home after a celebratory dinner, they are attacked by two young men, when of which grabs panicking and Nelly. Overprotective, tipsy Hans not only scares away the assailant, but beats his mate, who tried only to drag them apart, unconscious into hospital. Hans's colleagues start both a search for the other youngster and a formal investigation of his conduct, which looks nasty after Nelly's former boss's accidental witness observations describe him disproportionately violent. The victim, Jannik Lennarz, is a promising football (soccer) player and seems to have lasting breathing trouble. Nelly's mother Marion hails 'hero' Hans, the girls accidentally spots and follows the escaped thug, which gets her into acute problems, but Tariq steps in timely to save her and Hans, who ignored his suspension to go after mug shot-identified Marcel Greifswald, from themselves.

The plot thickens when the thieving knave is found in an adjoining room and a blackmail threat over his cellphone from dodgy dealer Kemal suggests a dark family secret, which they'll go at great lengths to guard.

Tarik and Claudia take fat Lola (16), who collapsed while fleeing after robbing an old lady's handbag, to ER, where she remains in danger for lack of a conclusive toxicological diagnosis. All points to improperly monitored diet pills, which her mother Kerstin Schneider can't believe. Nurse Frauke finds in Lola's bag a business card from the dodgy medical institute run by doc Jasmin's ruthlessly ambitious former college mate Dr. Sabrina Matschewski, who denies prescribing them, being part of a scientific test program, and refuses to cooperate. Fat Frauke intrudes as undercover patient, but another key is closer to Lola's life.
