Während David ein Familienessen plant, um seiner Mutter Francis von dem neuen Baby zu erzählen, äußert Bryan Goldie gegenüber sein Mitleid für deren Schwiegermutter-Trouble. Zwischenzeitlich realisiert Jane, dass sie auch in ihrem Alter immer noch in der Lage ist, Männer zu verführen. Nach einer nächtlichen Begegnung mit einem jüngeren Mann und einem ungewöhnlichen Erlebnis sucht sie aber David auf, um ihn nach medizinischem Rat zu fragen. Aus Angst, dass ihr Vater den Sorgerechtsstreit gewinnen könnte, fängt Shania an, ihre „California-To-Do“-Liste abzuarbeiten.

Bryan begeht Halloween wie jedes Jahr: Er dekoriert das Haus, damit die Nachbarn neidisch werden und fährt mit seiner besten Freundin Nicole Richie auf eine Kürbis-Farm, um dort nach Prominenten Ausschau zu halten. Außerdem schreibt er mithilfe eines Makeup-Künstlers allen anderen vor, welches Kostüm sie zu tragen haben. Als er jedoch darauf besteht, dieses Jahre solle das Motto der Halloween-Party „Honey Boo-Boo“ sein, wehrt sich David vehement dagegen und kommt in einem Tom-Brady-Outfit. Goldie reibt sich unterdessen weiter in dem Sorgerechtsverfahren um Shania auf und Clay macht eine schockierende Ankündigung, die Jane beinahe überschnappen lässt.

After recalling the disastrous dinners of Thanksgivings past, Bryan, David, Goldie, Shania and Rocky decide that this year they are going to enjoy the holiday with their new family. Later, after realizing the horrible fates of the turkeys at the farm a sensitive Shania and Bryan pardon all of them and take them home as new pets. The move prompts a meat-free dinner menu and in the spirit of the pardon encourages everyone to invite over family and friends that they need to make amends with. David invites his mother and his father, while Bryan extends an olive branch to Jane, Goldie reaches out to Clay and Rocky puts aside her political differences with her brother Clint. Though the pre-dinner festivities seem to be cheerful it doesn't take long for personalities to clash and for this Thanksgiving to go to the birds.

Both express interest in the role and decide to practice parenting by sending Goldie to a spa and taking in Shania. Bryan, convinced that he is the man for the job, gives Rocky a shot at her dream career by leaving her in charge at "Sing," but he soon finds that producing a child's life is much more difficult than producing a television show. Later, David confidently takes over and quickly realizes that despite his best intentions parenting is not an exact science.
