1x1 – Valletta - Die Festung der Malteser
Untrennbar verbunden mit der Geschichte Maltas ist die Geschichte des Ordens der Johanniter. 1530 wurde ihnen die Insel von Kaiser Karl V. als Lehen übertragen. Nur 35 Jahre später mussten sie ihr Lehen in einem furchtbaren Kampf gegen die Osmanen verteidigen. Trotz großer Übermacht der Angreifer gelang es den Christen, Malta zu halten und die Türken zum Abzug zu zwingen. Zum Dank für die "Retter des christlichen Abendlandes" half Papst Pius IV. den Felsen befestigen und so legte Großmeister Valette am 28.03.1566 den Grundstein für die spätere Stadt. Der Film erzählt die Entstehungsgeschichte von Valetta, der ersten Stadt der Moderne, die vollständig auf dem Reißbrett entworfen wurde. |
