Die Handlung ist simpel: Vater Godlock sinnt auf Rache,nach dem er und seine Familie unschuldig ins Kreuzfeuer von Gangstern geraten sind. Um den Verlust seines Kindes und seiner Stimme zu rächen, beginnt er die Kriminellen zu jagen und Stück für Stück auseinanderzunehmen. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Filmen des Genres wird hier auf den Einsatz von Worten verzichtet. John Woo setzt stattdessen auf eine visuelle Erzählweise und - na klar - Action.
In den Vereinigten Staaten wurden kürzlich erste Vorführungen für die Presse veranstaltet, und die Reaktionen sind gemischt (unten haben wir euch dafür Beispiele eingefügt). Während überwiegend positive Stimmen die Dominanz bilden, bleiben auch einige kritische Meinungen nicht aus. Insbesondere wird Hauptdarsteller Joel Kinnaman für seine Leistung gelobt, während die Actionszenen von Silent Night als Höhepunkt des Films gelten. Deutsche Kinogänger dürfen sich ab dem 14. Dezember auf den Titel freuen. Die hiesigen Kritiken werden voraussichtlich in der kommenden Woche erscheinen.
