Erste Meinungen zu "Avatar 2": James Cameron bleibt der Meister der Sequels

Nächste Woche Mittwoch startet Avatar: The Way of Water in den deutschen Kinos und erscheint damit zwei Tage früher, als in den USA. Dafür gab es drüben nun schon erste Pressevorführungen sowie die Weltpremiere der Fortsetzung, auf die viele 13 Jahre gewartet haben. Wenig überraschend tauchten jetzt die ersten knappen Meinungen zum Film von James Cameron auf und traditionell fallen diese ersten Statements auch sehr positiv aus. Doch selbst bei den Tweets, die Avatar 2 nicht in den Himmel loben, wird eines immer hervorgehoben: Technisch ist das Sequel wohl wirklich ein echtes Brett und macht den Film zu einem echten Hingucker, oder wie es Filmkritiker Mike Ryan so schön beschrieb:
[...] Es ist überwältigend. Vielleicht zu überwältigend. Manchmal verpasste ich Handlungspunkte, weil ich auf einen Pandora-Fisch starrte.
Der deutschen Presse wird Avatar: The Way of Water Anfang der kommenden Woche gezeigt. Die richtigen Kritiken dürfen dann am Dienstagabend online gehen. Nicht mehr lange warten also, bis es zurück nach Pandora geht und sollte Teil zwei erfolgreich sein, wird es nicht nur Teil drei und vier geben, sondern noch zwei weitere Teile, bei denen möchte Cameron den Regieposten aber an jemand anderen abgeben (mehr dazu hier). Wenn die angekündigten Sequels kein Erfolg sein sollten, gibt es übrigens schon einen Exit-Plan (siehe hier). Hier noch rasch die offizielle Synopsis, die Meinungen (Tweets) findet ihr darunter:
AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER spielt mehr als ein Jahrzehnt nach den Ereignissen des ersten Films und erzählt die spannende Geschichte der Familie Sully (Jake, Neytiri und ihre Kinder): von dem Ärger, der sie verfolgt und was sie auf sich nehmen, um einander zu beschützen; sowie die dramatischen Erlebnisse und die Kämpfe, die sie führen, um zu überleben.

Unsurprisingly, #AvatarTheWayOfWater is a visual masterpiece with rich use of 3D and breathtaking vistas. #AvatarTheWayOfWater pushes CGI to new places and uses the word "family" more than any F&F movie. While some of the new characters are underutilized, Pandora is miraculously realised, the underwater stuff glorious, and the final third is full of incredible action – see in IMAX!

#AvatarTheWayOfWater is “more is more” writ large. It’s more beautiful, more in awe of Pandora; more vocal in its environmentalism, more damning of humans. It’s an adrenaline shot to 3D filmmaking and an uncompromising doubling down. You’d expect nothing less from Cameron.

Vastly superior in visuals, story telling and performances, the sequel left my jaw on the ground for the entire runtime.
