1963 eröffnete das Cinerama Dome in Hollywood seine Pforten. Seit dem fanden dort nicht nur zahlreiche Premieren statt, das Kino entwickelte sich über die Jahre sogar zum Kult und hielt selbst im Zeitalter des Digitalen der 70mm-Projektion die Treue. Kein Wunder dass für Cinephile der Dome zur Anlaufstelle Nummer eins wurde, wenn es um Filmgenuss ging. Zu den Fans des Kinos zählt u. a. Quentin Tarantino, der diesem in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood ein kleines Denkmal setzte. Eine Bezeichnung die passt, denn bereits 1998 wurde das Gebäude unter Denkmalschutz gesetzt.
Doch wie so viele Kinos traf die Pandemie auch den Cinerama Dome hart. So hart, dass der Zelluloid-Tempel der Pacific-Theatres-Gruppe und 15 weitere seiner Ableger nun vor dem endgültigem Aus stehen. In einer Erklärung der Firma wurde bekannt gegeben, dass die Tore des Cineramas für immer geschlossen bleiben. Kinofans sind geschockt. Einige baten bereits Quentin Tarantino, das Gebäude zu kaufen.
